Adult ADHD Assessments
At Embrace Well, we use evidence-based tools to assess ADHD in adults, exploring attention, executive functioning, and the impact of these difficulties on daily life. We also consider other factors that may contribute to your concerns. You will receive a report outlining the findings, any diagnoses supported by the assessment, and personalized recommendations. These may include therapy, practical strategies, workplace or academic accommodations, or consultation with a medical provider about medication.
What is an Adult ADHD Assessment?
An adult ADHD assessment is an evaluation to determine whether attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) explains difficulties with attention, organization, time management, impulsivity, or restlessness. It explores how these concerns developed, whether they were present in childhood, and how they affect everyday life, including work, education, and relationships.
At Embrace Well Psychological Services, our psychologists use clinical interviews, standardized questionnaires, and relevant developmental history to assess adult ADHD. We also consider other possible explanations for your concerns, such as anxiety, depression, stress, and sleep difficulties.
The assessment provides clarity about your symptoms, any diagnoses supported by the findings, and personalized recommendations for support. We offer adult ADHD assessments for clients in Durham Region and across Ontario.
Difficulties with focus, organization, time management, and follow-through can affect your work, education, relationships, and confidence. You may have spent years working harder to keep up, without understanding why everyday responsibilities feel so challenging.
An adult ADHD assessment helps clarify whether ADHD, another concern, or a combination of factors explains these difficulties. Understanding your needs can help you make informed decisions about treatment, practical strategies, and workplace or academic accommodations. Whether or not you receive an ADHD diagnosis, the goal is to provide clarity and personalized recommendations that support your daily life.
Why does an adult ADHD assessment matter?
Who can benefit from an adult ADHD assessment?
An adult ADHD assessment may be helpful if you experience ongoing difficulties with attention, organization, time management, task completion, impulsivity, or restlessness that affect your daily life. You may benefit if you:
Struggle to manage responsibilities at work, school, or home despite considerable effort.
Have noticed these difficulties since childhood but were never assessed.
Did well academically, yet relied on last-minute pressure, extensive preparation, or support from others to keep up.
Find that your usual strategies are no longer enough as responsibilities increase.
Want to understand whether your difficulties relate to ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, or a combination of factors.
Were diagnosed with ADHD in childhood and want to better understand your current needs.
You do not need to be certain that you have ADHD before seeking an assessment. The purpose is to understand your concerns and identify appropriate support.
What to expect during an adult ADHD assessment
At Embrace Well, your adult ADHD assessment explores your experiences, history, and current challenges. The process includes:
Clinical interviews: We discuss your concerns, childhood experiences, education, mental health, and how symptoms affect work, relationships, and daily responsibilities.
Standardized questionnaires: You complete measures of ADHD symptoms and related concerns. With your consent, someone who knows you well may also provide information.
Review of relevant history: Where available, school reports or previous assessments can help us understand how your difficulties developed.
Consideration of other explanations: We explore whether anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, or other factors may contribute to your symptoms.
Feedback and recommendations: We explain the findings, discuss whether an ADHD diagnosis is supported, and answer your questions. You receive a comprehensive report with personalized recommendations for treatment, strategies, and supports.
You do not need to prepare “the right answers.” Sharing your experiences openly helps us understand your needs.
